1:1 Writing Review
What can you expect from an editor?
A fresh eye. Insights. A map to a strong revision.
Editing is intrinsically a subjective process of offering advice and suggestions to the author/client. Editing a creative work is perhaps the most subjective activity possible in the field of literature. As your editor, I will use my background and experience in editing the manuscript. An editor’s sole function is to aid and assist you in editing the manuscript. I will make my best efforts to advise and suggest changes to improve your manuscript. The decision to accept or reject my suggestions is finally and solely yours as a creative writer.
There are no guarantees in the highly competitive field of publishing and literature. In large part the acceptance of a manuscript for publication or an application for a writing grant, residency, academic program or other writing competition is the subjective decision of a publisher and its editors or a writing program and its staff. While working to aid you in preparing the best manuscript possible given the submitted material, I have no way of judging the market or the whims and caprices of the publishing industry and targeted writing community. I wish I could! But, please know that there are dozens, if not hundred, of literary journals that are good matches for publishing your work. Seeing your work published is a matter of commitment and perseverance. Hang in there, keep going. Your work will find its audience.
